The Handyvan Service

The HandyVan service has been in operation since 2004. It covers the whole of Dumfries & Galloway. Stuart Maxwell, the HandyVan fitter, is ‘simply the best’ man for the job and we receive glowing evaluations back on his work and easy manner.

Previously administered in partnership with Help the Aged, the HandyVan service is now be delivering the Small Repairs & Home Support Service on behalf of Care & Repair and Dumfries & Galloway Council.

The criteria for the new service is that it is free for people who are either a tenant of a private landlord or a home owner, and who are:-

• 60 or over

• Have learning difficulties or mental health problems

• Registered disabled

• A victim of domestic abuse.

Working within the above criteria, the service can provide (for example):-

• Door locks; door chains and spy holes

• Window locks

• Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors

• Grab rails

• Small repair jobs where there is a safety/security issue

(NB Keysafes can be provided at a cost, but fitted free.)
